goodteacher of February – Rachel

Our goodteacher, Rachel, is 1 of our 4 co-managers and graphics guru. She updates all the poster images you see around the studio and she’s often the one writing these ntroductions to the goodteacher of the month.

Rachel is a dedicated, mindful teacher who is hosting goodtrip to Las Galeras, Dominican Republic in a few weeks. Rachel’s teaching is thoughtful and therapeutic. Students cite her ability to sweeten challenges with the rewards of her soothing, caring nature. Her sequencing wraps you up in its arms and says, “Linger here. I’ve got you.” If you haven’t been to one of Rachel’s classes…go.

Rachel took a moment to ponder her habits and motivations for your pleasure.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
I feel happiest when I can see good in the challenges that come my way and face my existence with pure love. When I am able to know in my heart that all is temporary, everything changes (even the good times), and live a life from gratitude. It’s not always easy to apply this, but I am happiest when I do. ALSO sunshine on my skin, warm sand under my feet, and diving through huge salty waves makes me pretty happy too.

What is your greatest fear?
Losing those that I love.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
I sometimes let teeny tiny things stress me out to the point of anxiety and procrastination. Once I complete whatever it was, I realize that it was so not a big deal and how silly to let myself feel overwhelmed. This is something I’m working on. Yoga helps immensely.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?
I get annoyed over grammatical errors. Also not a fan when people speak negatively about others.

What is your greatest extravagance?
Lately, food.

What is your current state of mind?
Grateful.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
I say ‘awesome’ a lot. I wonder sometimes if it’s outdated, but it just comes out. It’s funny how I’ve never outgrown it.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?
My yoga practice has opened my heart to love the important people in my life in a new conscious way. Rooted in compassion and gratitude. So, I feel like it’s my yoga practice that I am most in love with, as it helps me to be open to receive everyone/thing else. The more grounded I am in my practice, the more I am able to continue loving and opening, it’s an endless cycle.

When and where were you happiest?
I always feel super happy at the beach swimming in huge waves. The bigger the waves the more at home and happy I feel. I like to pretend I’m communicating with the ocean. It teaches me to listen, and cheesy as it sounds, I think it listens to me.

Which talent would you most like to have?
I’d like to be able to sing and dance. I mean, I can do those things, but we’re talking talent here. I feel like having an innate ability to belt out beautiful notes and move my body in accordance to what I feel inside, with ease and effortless strength, would be amazing. Juggling could be pretty cool too.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I’m working on always speaking kindly to myself.

Where would you most like to live?
On a tropical island.

What is your most treasured possession?
I’m not sure if this counts as a possession, but my cat. Her name is Vega. She’s a pretty awesome buddy. And since I’m the one posting this blog, I will take the liberty of including a picture of her …

What is your motto?
Breathe deep. : )

I love you all! Thanks so much for allowing me to share in your practices. xoxoxox
